Calcium and pH Sensitivity of Myofibrils Isolated From Red and White Porcine Muscles
نویسندگان
چکیده
The calcium and pH sensitivity of myofibrillar ATPase, primarily actin-activated myosin ATPase, plays an integral role in regulating postmortem muscle ATP utilization and may pace postmortem glycolysis. Furthermore, differences in postmortem myofibrillar ATPase activity due to myosin heavy chain isoforms have been hypothesized to contribute to differences in postmortem metabolism between muscles. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of pH on the basal and Ca activated myofibrillar ATPase activity in myofibrils from porcine red (RST) and white semitendinosus (WST) muscles.

The pH-dependent ATPase activity of myofibrils from muscles varying in fiber type is thought to modulate postmortem muscle metabolism. The objective of this study was to determine the effects various conditions, simulating postmortem conditions, have on myofibrillar ATPase activity of red semitendinosus (RST) and white semitendinosus (WST) porcine muscle. The ATPase activity of myofibrils was m...

The susceptibility to denaturation of myofibrillar protein from chicken muscles was investigated and compared with denaturation of myofibrillar protein from pork. Immediately postmortem, the Pectoralis profundus (white muscle) and the Pubo-ishio femorale (red muscle) of six Arbor Acres chickens were collected. The Semimembranosus (white muscle) and Psoas major (red muscle) of three Yorkshire x ...
متن کاملC-protein from rabbit soleus (red) muscle.
A new form of skeletal-muscle C-protein has been isolated from rabbit soleus (red) muscle. This new form of C-protein has been purified to homogeneity by a procedure similar to that used to purify C-protein from white skeletal muscle. In soleus muscle, only this new form of C-protein could be detected, whereas in psoas (white) muscle, only the previously identified form of C-protein was detecte...
متن کاملMyosin heavy chain isoform composition influences the susceptibility of actin-activated S1 ATPase and myofibrillar ATPase to pH inactivation.
The objectives of this study were to determine the influence of pH and MyHC isoforms on myofibrillar and actin-activated myosin subfragment 1 (S1) ATPase activity and the protective effect of actin. Red (RST) semitendinosus and white (WST) semitendinosus myofibrils were incubated at pH 7, 6, or 5.5 with 0 or 2mM ATP. RST and WST S1 isolates were incubated at pH 7, 6, or 5.5 in the presence or a...
متن کاملRegulation of binding of phosphofructokinase to myofibrils in the red and white muscle of the barred sand bass, Paralabrax nebulifer (Serranidae).
The binding of phosphofructokinase (PFK) to myofibrils from the white muscle of the fish Paralabrax nebulifer (Girard, 1854) is sensitive to factors known to be allosteric regulators of PFK activity. PFK in Triton-X-100-extracted muscle remains bound to myofibrils at pH 7.0 and is fully solubilized by increasing the pH to 8.0. The curve describing the pH-dependence of PFK binding to myofibrils ...
